Main purpose of the job
Singing is very much at the heart of the Ark Music Programme and is a core part of life in our schools. We are looking to recruit experienced primary music specialists to work alongside our teachers, coaching them to be great music leaders. 
Placements will commence from September onwards on a freelance basis, with school placements consisting of both half and full days. 
The ideal candidate will:
• have a genuine passion for and belief in the potential of every young person
• be an outstanding teacher and facilitator of music in the primary phase, with a particular emphasis on singing
• have demonstrable experience in the training and coaching of others to significantly improve their practice.

Central to our approach is training non-specialist teachers to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to teach music effectively.

The Ark Music Programme 
The central music team exists within Ark Schools to support music-making across the network. We believe that a high quality, progressive and diverse education in music is the entitlement of every child, regardless of their background. Our mission is to ensure that every pupil in an Ark school is set-up to enjoy a life enriched by music and the many holistic benefits that brings. We want our young people to leave school knowing that they are creative musicians who belong to a vibrant artistic community.

Our programme seeks to represent and equally value different kinds of music and musician. 

Start date: October 2018
Interview dates: Wednesday 17th October
Closing date for applications: We will accept applications on a rolling basis.
Fee: We have a sliding payscale depending on the number of hours worked, equating to roughly £220 for a full day and £140 for a half-day.

Key responsibilities
• Deliver a programme of professional development for our teachers (both in school and through CPD events), resulting in high quality learning experiences for pupils
• Support on the development of an inclusive model for learning from EYFS – Year 6 which ensures that children leave primary school as fully rounded musicians
• Stay abreast of modern teaching practices
• Attend relevant Ark training days

• Willingness to travel within the UK, using public transport whenever practicable
• Willingness to undertake training and open to receiving feedback
• A hunger to do things better and a continuous desire to know more about curriculum, pedagogy, practice and music
• To identify as a musician – you must love music-making for yourself as much as for our pupils

• Ability and willingness to understand and respond to sometimes complex behavioural needs
• Open and responsive attitude towards engaging and collaborating with a variety of leaders, teachers, students and musical genres
• Ability to work flexibly to support pupils’ needs 

• Outstanding teacher/educator, with experience of teaching primary level music in a whole-class setting 
• Experience of working with adults and coaching others
• Knowledge of Kodaly & Solfa
• Evidence of raising attainment and participation of all pupils within a challenging environment
• Ability to reflect on own practice and the practice of others in pursuit of improved pupil outcomes
• Experience of drawing on a broad range of musical genres to create a rich and varied pupil experience
• Up to date knowledge of developments and good practice in music education
